Costa Rica is in Central America, bordered by Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the southeast, the Pacific Ocean to the west, and the Caribbean Sea to the east. Known for its biodiversity, it has rainforests, volcanoes like Arenal, and eco-tourism hotspots such as Monteverde Cloud Forest.

Costa Rica's compact territory packs an incredible biodiversity with active volcanoes like Arenal and Poás, cloud forests in Monteverde, Pacific and Caribbean beaches, and lush rainforests covering over half the country. The Central Valley highlands contain most cities and coffee plantations, flanked by the Talamanca mountain range to the south (home to Cerro Chirripó, the highest peak at 3,820m). The northern plains transition to the Nicaraguan lowlands, while the Osa Peninsula in the southwest harbors one of the most biologically intense places on Earth in Corcovado National Park.

Costa Rica has a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons. The dry season runs from November to April, while the rainy season lasts from May to October. Coastal areas are hot and humid year-round, while the central highlands are cooler and more temperate. The country’s diverse ecosystems, including tropical rainforests, cloud forests, and beaches, lead to a wide variety of microclimates.
