General Information
Norway, famous for its fjords, Northern Lights, and Viking history, is a Nordic wonder.
Where Norway is Located
Norway is in Northern Europe (Scandinavia), bordered by Sweden to the east, Finland and Russia to the northeast, and the North Atlantic Ocean to the west. It is known for its fjords, Arctic tundra in the north (Svalbard archipelago), and mountainous terrain. The country also has a long coastline along the Norwegian Sea.
Landscape of norway
Norway’s glacially carved fjords, such as UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord and Nærøyfjord, plunge between sheer cliffs and snow-capped peaks like Galdhøpiggen (2,469m). The Hardangervidda plateau, Europe’s largest mountain plateau, contrasts with the Lofoten Islands’ jagged granite spires. Svalbard’s Arctic tundra harbors glaciers and polar bears, while the Jostedalsbreen ice cap feeds turquoise glacial lakes. The northern Finnmark region features Sami reindeer pastures and the Aurora Borealis over birch forests.
Climate of norway
Norway has a varied climate, ranging from coastal temperate conditions in the south to subarctic conditions in the far north. The coastal regions experience mild winters and cool summers, influenced by the Gulf Stream. In the northern parts, winters are long and harsh, with temperatures often dropping well below freezing, and the summer months are short but can bring warmer temperatures. The inland areas can experience greater temperature extremes.
Natural resources of norway
Oil, natural gas, fish, and hydropower are abundant.
