The United States, a global superpower, is known for its diverse landscapes, cities like New York, and national parks.

Where the United States is Located

The United States is in North America, bordered by Canada to the north, Mexico to the south, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. It includes 50 states, Alaska (northwest of Canada), and Hawaii (Pacific Islands). The country spans diverse landscapes, from the Rocky Mountains to the Great Plains and Florida Everglades.

The U.S. spans Alaska’s Denali (6,190m) to Death Valley’s salt flats (-86m). The Rocky Mountains’ glacial cirques contrast with the Great Plains’ vast prairies. The Grand Canyon’s layered sandstone (UNESCO), Hawaii’s Kīlauea volcano, and the Everglades’ sawgrass marshes (UNESCO) highlight diversity. Appalachia’s ancient peaks erode into misty valleys, while the Pacific Northwest’s Olympic rainforests receive 140+ inches of annual rain.

Climate of the United States

The United States experiences a wide range of climates due to its size and geographical diversity. The western states, including California, have a Mediterranean climate, while the southeast experiences a humid subtropical climate. The Midwest and Northeast have cold winters and hot, humid summers, with snowfall common in the winter. The central plains and the Rocky Mountains have semi-arid and mountainous climates. Coastal areas are influenced by the oceans.
